Winter Waxoyling tips

Hi all,
Just noticed the front underside on my Rover (sadly not a classic) requires some waxoyl as soon as possible. Yes, it really is as bad as you're thinking. The rust, not the Rover that is.
I was considering doing either tomorrow or Sunday.
Given the temperatures, is there anything I should be doing differently?

I wouldn't put it over the rust without removing and killing it first.... otherwise you are just hiding it.
Waxoyl really is quite horrible stuff - it's sticky and never dries.
Have a look at Dinitrol. They sell a rust converter, that kills the rust (preferably after you've ground it away anyway, a cavity wax for the sills and bits you can't see, and then a nice Sealant that gets sprayed over the parts you've treated with rust killer - best part is that it dries hard and looks nice and factory.

Keep the stuff (whatever you use) as warm as possible re-heating where necessary to keep it moving it will go solid in your lance if it gets cold. I think you can thin out with white spirit this may help.

Honestly Waxoyl is absolute rubbish, if you have some spare in the garage i would still chuck it and buy Bilt hamber rust proofing. The difference is unbelievable, even old engine oil would be better than Waxoyl, it might look good but it does not travel up the chassis legs after the solvent evaporates. Just look at the bilt hamber laboratory testing on steel plates on their website to see the difference.

I wouldn't say that it is utter garbage, although its penetrative qualities leave something to be desired. I use supatrol which is very thin and penetrates well even in cold weather, with waxoil on top.Never had any problems with this formula in over 25 years.
I mix the waxoyl with white spirit and place the can on an old iron to get it nice and hot before using the air compressor and injection gun to fill chassis/box etc, I also have a wide-angle spray to do open areas. I normally do this in the summer though, so it stays hot and runs through properly.
