Thinking of scratching that itch

Hi, so im thinking of scratch that piston head itch of a cheap older car having been awoken from my current 90s shed downgrade from having recently purchasing a house. those cars were the bmw e36 328i and corrado/golf vr6, both would be a vast power improvement on my current car. Now these are quite cheap but should i really take a gamble on a car in its late teens/early twenties both mechanically and exterior wise as a few of the vr6's ive checked out have been rusty money pits so im now wondering if the 328 is a better way to go or to give up and just wait till i have the cash for a more modern car, any thoughts?

Keep your eyes peeled until a good one comes along. Be sure to register on the online communities and keep an eye on classifieds there so that you can hopefully net an honest, enthusiast-owned example. Be prepared to wait a little while though!

These cars are super enjoyable to drive and if you happen upon one without tired suspension and bushings you will really be rewarded.

I'm into vdubs but I've also hot a 328 sport. I was only intending on keeping it for a yr but its been absolutely superb. I've had to spend a bit on it; window motor, sorting rust on rear arches & rear shocks but so far it hasn't let me down & is a great drive. IMO the bmw is a much better quality car but if things go wrong I think it costs more. If you decide to go down the vr6 route definately go for the corrado as IMO it's a far better car, better looking, more powerful & just feels more special

I've had my 328i for 5 years now.

Never broken down, I think I've spent less then £250 in repairs in all the time I've had it (despite doing the odd track day); it's cheap to insure, comfortable, safe, does 30+ mpg (35+ on the m'way) and the best thing? I still enjoy driving it. If you can find one with 60k miles on it and full service history you'll be laughing.

P.S. as above, check for rust in the rear arches.
