My Capri is an 84 2.8i with Bosch fuel injection, recently its started idling too high(1500-2000 revs) using the screw to lower this means it wont idle at all when off the choke.
So any ideas chaps?
My garage have had a play but can only get it to run right when hot or cold but not both.
Ive had it for years and its not been a problem until now, sometimes it even starts ok then the idle goes slowly up,its infuriating!

Clean throttle body with carb cleaner and see if that helps before buying new airflow meter

Induction leak?

An old Granada of mine with the same engine ran all sorts of weird, due to a knackered inlet gasket.

All of the above + check the throttle position sensor. If its not giving the idle signal to the ecu it can mess about. Can be adjusted but be careful because it also has to give a wide open signal as well (richens the mixture I think).

Pop into the TVR S forum. Lots of folks there with the 2.8 that are very helpful.

Based on posts I've seen an induction leak would be a good start point.

They dont have AFM or a TPS as they are mechanical injection rolleyes
This is where the net starts to look very much like the pub, you know the pub with the pissed "expert" at the bar.
First go to a forum where people actually know what they are on about wink like the above or a capri specific forum.
If not disconnect the cold start unit and see if that lowers the idle they are well know for stickibg on or off and causing all sorts of cold and hot start problems.

read this it will help more than most of the "guesses you will get on here

OP; had a similar problem with my 2.8 Capri a few years back - turned out to be an air leak on the inlet manifold gasket . I replaced it and she ran like a dream.

You'd also be wise to check the fuel metering unit - the butterfly valve (IIRC) inside can also cause similar problems to the ones you describe. Make sure the ribbed hose leading from the FMU into the plenum is in good condition with no air leaks.

If fall else fails, Martin at Caprigear (in darkest Lincolnshire) is a top bloke who will be able to give you good advice over the phone.

So What; wish I'd had access to that chart years ago... it would've saved me a LOT of hassle!

Brilliant advice many thanks chaps, will try the inlet manifold gasket and the other ideas, that charts awesome what a great thing, will print that off.
Tvr forum idea noted for future ref too,was contemplating other cologne users(apart from powerfully built directors!) earlier and forgot about tvrs.

"Clean throttle body with carb cleaner and see if that helps before buying new airflow meter"

Not sure what its called Air meetering unit ?, Large Jubilee clip holds on bid black air hose ? Large flap underneath clean it all with Carb cleaner, thats the usual cause.

www.fordcaprilaser.co.uk has a good Q&A forum please about 10 years of history via search.

As above; check the cold start valve and auxiliary air device.
Join the Capri Power forum, loads of Capri specific advice there and local help probably too.
