Classic looking steering wheel with air bags, do they exist?

Rebodying a modern car as a late 50's racer and need a steering wheel.

I am not looking to create a replica, more of an hommage to the cars of the period. This means I am keeping the interior comfortable. The rebodying rather than a kit also means I don't need SVA. It does mean I need an airbag though.

Anyone know of any steering wheel with an airbag that would look anything like acceptable in a late 50's/early 60's sports car?

Why? I don't think there's a law that says you have to have one, is there? Lots of people replace airbag wheels with non-airbag wheels without a hint of hassle from plod or MOT man.

Any modern wheel will look incongruous at best, imo.

To be fair, that Alfa wheel is as good as you'll find if you need an air-bag wheel.

The only one i could think of was the lovely big wheel from the current Rolls

BMW Z8 has a lovely wheel, but probably tricky to find.



The current Porsche "sport" steering wheel is also nice, but likely to be expensive.

Z8 wheel is good. Not sure which Porsche Sport wheel you are referring too, Google is not very precise

Take a look at some of the Billet wheel manufacturers in the 'States - they produce period styles steering wheels used in many customs and hot rod/resto rods.

How difficult is it to find a steering wheel that actually fits?...I read somewhere you may need to buy a separate 'boss'?

Is there anything you should check before taking the plunge and buying the steering wheel of your dreams?

Am keen to ditch the massive one on my Z3 in favour of something more retro looking.
