Original retail price of 1965 Beetle?

Does anyone know where I can find this out? Need to know for tax reasons and I haven't found it online.

I have had a quick look and found a few sources saying $1595 but nothing about what it was in the UK

Don't know about 65 but my 1958 glasses guide says £654 for a standard car and £808 for a de lux.

I presume that's without purchase tax? Unless they'd abolished it by 65

'Fraid not. Purchase Tax was replaced by VAT in around '69. Need the tax for Schools 'n Hospitals y'know.
