For years they (and the Maestro T) had to suffer ridicule (they still do) - now with so few remaining, are prices rising?

It would seem so.

The Maestro Turbo had something in its favour, only 500 odd built.
The Montego Turbo on the other had was up in the 7,500 built numbers.

So, over £2k for a 'spares or repair' example, couple large dents in the roof, non runner, usual tinworm, etc seems like a lot of money.

Over 6,000 hits, and loads of watchers.

Someone is having the last laugh?

Montego and Maestro Turbos much underrated in my humble opinion.

Anyone who has driven a Meastro Turbo will understand what the fuss is about. I was never lucky enough to own one but they were much better on the road than the performance figures suggest.

Roadholding was outstanding, steering feel wonderful. If it would have had a VW badge it might have been a hit.

Great cars, Turbo or standard MG. were underrated for many years but last couple of years prices have been rising. sold an unroadworthy MG Maestro Turbo two years ago for £1000 with loads of interest.

Prices will certainly rise

Not in the same league as the Maestro/Montego though.

As I recall, they did suffer ridicule, but it was mainly due to the fact that they were badged as MG's when the traditionalists saw them as no such thing.

If they'd not been badged as MG's then I think they would have been rated higher by people based purely on their own merits, but with the MG badges on, they were seen as a pretender and an embarrassment to the marque.

Badge engineering rarely goes down well with car enthusiasts!

That's my recollection, too: also, rather than harking back to the MG saloons, which preceded me but seem to have been well thought of, most people recalled the MGB which confused the audience. The flat cap brigade who might have bought them hated both as they were still smarting about the MG factory closure. In saying that, the Montego's I travelled in weren't close to the VW/GM/Ford equivalents in terms of the fit & finish anyway, so image wasn't the only problem, & the turbo versions apparently torque steered a bit, as would anything fwd with that kind of power delivery in those days.

Funny, isn't it, how the MG snobs seem to conveniently forget that the first MG was a rebadged Austin . . .

It also proves that no matter how good a car is, if it has a bad badge it will still be a flop.

If Rover would have made the current day Mini, would it have saved them? I doubt it.

Could Skoda have crawled out from behind the badge without the Germans? No way.

It's a sad reflection that the buying masses still buy on badge perception rather than reality.

Its about time, prices have been deflated for far too long this has had a negative effect on the survival rate and the parts availability, its now quite hard to source all the parts you need to restore one of these so a complete car not messed about with too much, plus the optional W+P bodykit, was obviously worth it to the winning bidder, assuming he wasn't a time waster.
