Took this gratuitous photo at the weekend and then discovered it's the great man's 75th birthday on 7 August 2013. Good excuse for fans to post some of their favourite Giugiaro designs and to practise spelling his name?

Such a stunning range of designs - responsible for legends such as the BMW M1, Lamborghini Cala, Golf Mk.1... and the FSO Polonez!

How about the Great Man's favourite ever design? I understand that he did it for free as a thank-you to FIAT for all of the support they gave him throughout his career. 8 years on and it's still a core part of their range.

Designed by the great man whilst working for Bertone, but actualy on National Service at the time.

The Grodon Keeble was also penned by him at roughly the same time and you can tell too.

I thought that the MKI Panda was his favourite? I read it in a huge coffee table book of his work. Page after page of supercars and other exotica, then his personal best at the end - The Panda.

He was interviewed for one of the classic car mags (probably Octane) a couple of years ago and stated that he was most proud of the Grande Punto, not because it's the most dramatic or beautiful of all his designs, but that despite all the modern-day obstacles faced by today's car designers (pedestrian safety, etc.), he still managed to come up with something uniquely attractive in a world full of bland or plain ugly competitors.

It has been mentioned above but this is my favourite, the Gordon Keeble GK1. You can see traces of some of other designs from certain angles, especially Alfa Romeo at the rear.

He designed the Vredesteins on my Porsche.

Will they go up in value?

A Guigiaro car that not many may recognise, unless they are anoraks.
But fully within his innovative, beautiful 'oeuvre'.
Pity that it was never appreciated as much as it deserved.

In an interview a few years ago "why do British journalists always ask me about the Morris Ital?

Since I earn my corn selling parts for one of his better designs then I suppose I owe him one!

I seem to dimly recall reading that he designed some Daewoo or other. Lanos perhaps?

No It's not. It's a lot of (positive) things, but not beautiful, just a boxy four door hatch which when morphed into the integrale became:

Aggressive,
Purposeful,
Capable,
Etc.

I wonder if GG drew up the extra bits it gained as it morphed?
He was also responsible for the Mk1 VW Golf (which from the rear quarter view looks like a Delta) the Alfasud and Sprint all of which I've owned over the years, Happy birthday GG. smile
