1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 (ex Fangio)

Not the 300SLR though. 658 is still M-B property. Only two of them wver escaped to my knowledge.
(1) The Ford Museum car in Dearborn
(2) The Schlumpf car.
Of ten built ,the Levegh car was destroyed in the Le Mans tragedy in 1955 so 9 survived. There may be one in a Munich museum but not sure.
The Ford museum tried to trade its car for a significant group of other cars,but DB cited a clause in the original donation that prevented this. Thus we will never see a 300SLR at auction.
They never expected that the 196 would show up as it was originally donated to the Montagu Museum.
Price seemed about right.
