Thanks to the budget my 73 mgb will be tax exempt from next year. I was wondering if this just happens automatically, so the next tax reminder will say £0, or do you have to apply for it somehow? Thought I'd ask as a google search suggests both. Also as the current tax expires on 31/3/14, if it is the latter it would be handy to try and sort before!

I'd be grateful if anyone could shed some light on this

Cheers

My tax reminder say £0 but you still get the reminder, so I guess it just happens automagically.

the status will need changing to Historic

rather than listening to web 'wisdom' why not get it from the horses mouth?

You get a tax disc as usual, but it costs zip. That's all there is to it.

Next time it needs taxing go to a local DVLA office (befroe they shut them all !! ) and get the taxation class changed from PLG to historic, then get the free tax disc, this is what i have had to do on the 4 or 5 occasions i've had to change a car from PLG to historic (back on the road from years in storage) if you doit through the swansea office they will
A - fook it up
B - loose the paperwork them blame you/ the Po/ bin ladin ect ect (they NEVER loose anything )
C - get it all done in about 3 weeks for which time your vehical is untaxed and unusable.
