Caravans and the life in the 50s and 60s

This weekend saw the annual meeting of a small club who relive those days of yesteryear. The hairstyles, the clothing - they did the lot. Of 130 members, 102 made the effort to partake in this weekend coming from all over France. I hope you like the photos.

Looks good! I saw something "period" towing something "period" in the UK last week, brought a smile to my face, although I'm sorry to say that I simply can't remember what it was! All I do recall is that there was a convertible Vitesse following it!

Those caravans with the multiple 'lights' are really a great alternative style wise as compared with the Airstreams - what make?

Brilliant post OP, I could have spent hours wandering around that lot, the XJ-S has towed its Caravan so fast its roofs been battered in the slipstream.

Sorry, but I am not really a caravan person. If pushed I'd always prefer a tent. There were so many makes there including I remember a load of Sterckemann (sp?) ones which are made in France. I thought this one:-



was an Airstream of sorts and while American it was made in California:-



Then there was the one being towed by the big pink/salmon yank tank and it turned out the caravan was American too.



So much I had never seen before, like this scooter which I was convinced when I saw it was a Zundapp - but it wasn't. I looked at the make and it was a Manurhin, which again I'd never heard of.

OP I wouldn't entertain a caravan either, I could spend hours looking at the cars and other stuff, but only the other stuff because it would bring back many memories of holidays in Wales in the 70's.

I think they are Carlights, the Rolls Royce of caravans, very well made.
I'll ask another question though what is the car in pic 21, that is pale yellow & looks like a Jeep?

Well, it is a Jeep in a way, but not one we are really used to. It's a 1949 Willys Jeepster.

All very stylish, unlike today's Euroboxes. Having said that its all a little to modern for my taste (or lack of?) I'm stuck back in the 1920's with my combo.

There are no Carlights in any of the pictures. The Caravans with the multiple windows are Henons, and the others with the raised roof lines with the small side windows are Notins which all have wooden shutters on the larger side windows. These are two high quality french Caravan manufacturers from the 1950's - 1970's.

They would have had to have been export versions as door was on opposite side.
