Anyone like old coaches ?

I saw this in Suffolk over the weekend, a lovely old Bedford, I did see it leaving, and it was full of passengers, as though being used for real.

It was in superb condition.

Th.e first vehicle that I drove, off road of course, was a Ford Plaxton Elite 2 53 seater. I was about 13. I was also involved with a kids jazz band and we owned a Duple Vega like that first one with a Bedford petrol engine

Yes, well closely related. It's a Bedford VAL70 which is the newer version of the old VAL14. The Italian Job was a VAL14 with a different body. Harrington Legionaire in fact.

It's lovely, but if I were an insurance company that covered coach firms, I would not be offering cover for it to be used as a normal coach. Not with passenger injury claims like they are these days. Just asking for trouble. But as a promotional vehicle for the business, for shows and stuff, then it's great.

There's a bus company near me (North Somerset Coaches) which have a few old buses and coaches which are in use. They hire them out but recently ran a load of normal services with them to celebrate an anniversary.

for "EU" regs read Closed down the private bus companies and put Arriva in charge of the bus service on the islands. Many locals are quite cross about it because the service is now worse.

Yep, I like coaches, lorries etc, mine started out as a coach for the RAF in WW2, doing this kind of work (no idea if the truck shown is mine or not though):

Actually I do sometimes whip off to the coast in it!

I take the wife and kids to the beach at Hornsea and as a coach, I get free parking in the "Coaches Only" spot!

Plenty of room in the boot for sandwiches!

I have used it for Scout trips, Lads football games, Ladies Day, and I take it to a few rallies and shows. All "Not for hire or reward" but I have my PCV.

Furthest trip was to Germany and back for a retirement party. Managed 15 mpg.
