S1 E-type voltage regulator
Discussion
Hi guys, I am putting my 64 4.2 FHC back together (in truth it was a wreck not run for 20 years with a lot of missing parts). I am trying to work out the location and placement of the voltage regulator next to the heater box (its LHD if that makes a difference).
Can anyone help by providing a picture of theirs? The books I have seem pretty crap for this. I have given up on working out where the radiator fan motor is bracketed from.

You need a book called The Complete E Type (I think) it is the geeks /anoraks guide to the car and lists all changes to equipment and specs and photos of everything e type. Good luck finding one though .
Your reg was fitted under the heater box , as for the rad brackets I cannot help.
I am not a jag expert but know a mk2 and e type specialist .

There are two specialist books, neither of which are in print, so search diligently because the price can differ by literally hundreds of pounds.
The first big book in hardback is Philip Porter's bible called "E-type. The definitive history". You can find it here:-

The second, rather mythical for some obscure reason, is "Jaguar six-cylinder restoration and originality guide" by Dr. Thomas F. Haddock. It's a paperback A4 size, and I've had my copy of both since the publication. This last book is American and for some reason prices went through the roof a few years back. However, a quick Google found that it is now within the realms of sanity again:-

But to answer you question, the voltage regulator is fixed underneath the heater box facing the bonnet catch, if you get what I mean.

There is of course another alternative, and that is to replace the dynamo with an alternator. Did this when I restored my XK140, cost about £50.00. This way you do not need a voltage regulator, and the output is sure to be higher than your old dynamo. There are of course suppliers of alternators that are look-a-like dynamos, with all said advantages, but at a cost more like £170.00.
