'74 Escort RS2000 papers and literature

Previously, I unearthed details of one of my grandfather's company cars, a '72 Escort with aftermarket upgrades.
Recent delving into the basement has uncovered what I presume was the next car, a 1974 Ford Escort RS2000 in Sebring Orange.
This folder was a brilliant find as it had a load of brochures, road test articles and dealer literature as well as the invoice. I hope some of you find this as interesting as I did.





going by their inclusion in the folder, it seems he was considering the Cortina and Opel Manta as well.


I'm sure some 70's car buff would find these bloody useful


Decision made: time for some 1970s man maths.

Seems with a bit of Google VUA 123M may still exist in good condition, although not taxed since 2004. I might even have the engine in the garage, I'm yet to check the serial numbers.
If I'm not contravening any copyright laws I'll happily photograph any details of the various booklets.

What I'd do is contact the RS Owners Club - http://rsownersclub.co.uk/ - and see if the owner is a member. If so it would be good to reunite the stuff with the car.

Thanks, might drop them an e-mail. I have already contacted a chap who seems to have recent(ish) pics of the car on his photobucket.

Just had confirmation the car is probably alive and very well... in Australia.
We had heard rumours of one of his cars being there, so there we go. Oh well

Ford really had the knack of marketing cars back them - even some very average tin was made to look amazing. I still have the 1977 Ford cars brochure from Grosvenor Motors in Gillingham (Dorset) from the day my Dad traded his 1973 Mexico in for a Capri 2000S.
The Mark 1 RS booklets are worth a bit more than £30 - nearer to £100 I'd imagine. I had an RS1600 factory workshop manual and sold it for a staggering three figure sum 8-9 years ago on Ebay.
I still have my Old Man's 1974 issue Mexico/RS1600 Haynes manual but sadly not the Mexico itself.

Storminnorman. Was interested to see invoice for 74 RS2000. I bought mine in Feb 74 from Clarke & Simpson in London for £1619.28 on the road
and that included centre console, petrol, tax and plates!! Later prepared for almost 3 yrs tarmac rallying in Ireland. Subsequently put back to standard and sold for £1500 on top of used parts prices. Oh to have had it tucked away til now!!

Fantastic stuff, as an owner of a '74 RS2000 I find the whole fascinating.

Great find. Very envious.

Great seeing the original invoice - but slightly concerned and a little horrified that anyone would have had a set of Wolfrace alloys fitted at new

Odd that he didn't order the car new with the clock/console instead of it being retro fitted by dealer?

I'm guessing the car was in dealer stock, and he didn't want to wait the 6 months or whatever it was back then for a new one....?

Good to see it still around albeit on the other side of the globe.

Looks good in the top photo taken at Stanford Hall, but not so good in the bottom one fitted with the wrong colour decals

Hoonabator: thanks, I hadn't seen the first pic. I was in contact with the author of the second picture - he had the car in his garage for a friend for a few years and confirmed it went to Australia 2-3 years ago.
So far the RS Owners Club in Australia has not replied to my contact - if anyone knows of a good contact down under I'd appreciate it!

You could try the RS2000 Registrar at Ford AVO OC, as the owner in Aussie maybe a member. When I was RS2 Registrar many years ago, there were quite a number of Aussie owners in AVO OC.
