classic ford, im tempted into the ford 100e Anglia. I have seen one which is totally original and see there are a few variants, Am I correct to say the 3 bar front grille is premium to the usual mesh grill ? any thing I should look out for , they seem to be up for 1=6k ??? lot of money. Im looking at 19 55 plate car with around 50k , any info on any aspects would be appreciated any 100e owners out there many thanks

I have a 100e Popular 1960. It is a 22K miler and although I've tried to keep it original I think it will have a respray during the winter.

The 3 bar grille is generally the earlier models and better trim options but the Owners Club have all the info on when the change points occur.

Now in 'anorak' mode..... I can tell you that the 3 bar grille denotes an Anglia between '53 and '57.
Prefects had a vertical slotted grille. '57 on Anglias and for all Populars there is a cross mesh grille. Aluminium for Basic models and chrome for Deluxe.

I've owned mine for several years and always thought the value to be under 2K, but just recently they seem to have gained a fair bit. However, I'd say 4K would be plenty to spend, even for the very best of them.

6K? Surely not. Probably a 4K one that's subject to a bit of horse trading!

Depends what you want in a car, but the sidevalve engine with a 3 speed box and running cross ply tyres like mine, is best described as 'charmingly antiquated' to drive. However, the later Prefect came with the OHV engine out of the 105e, so there's a lot more tuning options. Apparently this car was to fill a void for a small 4 door family car until the Cortina was introduced.

I've just started a recommissioning of a low mileage MKII Zodiac so the Pop may be moving on next year although I will be very sorry to see it go.
