If a re-post, please accept my apologies.

Missing Jaguar E-Type made in Coventry goes under the hammer:

Nice find, but will probably cost another £40k to recommission it..

My estimate, sale price around £35k....We'll see.

This is just more hype from the auction house, they are also pushing a 'long lost' XK120 which was knocking about on Ebay and other sites in the summer for £20k.

My estimate £60-£70k.

Not that I would ever buy or sell a car through Coys

probably not a cheap or quick recomission, hyped up i think, interesting who owned it as it in a dusty barn attached to a derelict french farm.

keen to see what it made, if it is prototype or pre-production version, but facts suggests a normal low number production car. also had a paint job now to aubergine so its no longer original for the purists.

That e-type in the ITV link - 1600 RW - was that a press car?

I'm sure it's in an old episode of Edgar Wallace Mysteries from 1961ish, along with another RW reg one ...

I believe that 1600 RW is an outside lock car that originally belonged to (then Jaguar comps manager) "Lofty" England. That's from memory though, and I'm on holiday and drink has been taken....

So, £88,000 as it stood, apparently complete (less the front bumpers) and non-rotten, but still in need of a total recommissioning.

Why is this car in the news anyway ?

It's not that rare and more interesting cars have sold for more money without the media attention.

Coys do have good PR - if their real reputation was known they'd have gone bust years ago, the money from their auction would have been lost, the punters left unpaid and their directors banned from holding the same office - but - knowing their "dynamism" they would probably restart the company and eventually get back into the same positions.

Oh hang on that did happen wink

Rumour has it that they're not doing too well at the moment .......
