mkII Celica Supra
Discussion
They are a superb car, mine is an early narrowbody, thankfully one of the few that haven't rotted away years ago! Parts are still reasonably easy to find with the right contacts, although body parts can be difficult to find. You are best off with a post-83 car that benefits from the later suspension etc
Stuff to watch out for ...
Rust on Sunroof. Screen pillars. Tailgate. Never had any other probs on mine.
The black strips that run down the side of the car have metal inserts that rust causing the strip to lift.
Electric aerial usually fail but are an easy diy rebuild.
Clutch slave cylinder.
Piston rings. Let it tick over when warm for a min then give it some revs and check for smoke.
Starter motor solenoid.
Wheels come up nicely with plenty of elbow grease and Solvol.
225 x 60 x 14 were getting hard to come by. I found it impossible to get the Pirelli P6's so switched to Avon if they still do them ....
5MGE is a lovely motor. Smooth as silk.
I averaged about 24-26mpg.

Lewg. That looks in lovely condition.
Performance. If I remember correctly the 5MGE in my 1986 developed around 169bhp. 0-60 was around 8 seconds. It may not be the fastest car but knock it down a gear and performance was pretty good.
Cruising was effortless.
Top speed for a motor in good nick on the flat around 140mph.
