What is the correct value of a 1994 Rover 100 Rio 3 door?

I was hoping that someone could put a value on my G'ma's car.

Her health means that she won't be using it anymore but webuyany...says it's worth £155 which seems a bit hard on it as it's a lovely wee thing.

It's a 1994 Rover 100 Rio 3dr with the big sunroof and catalytic converter and is metallic red .

Reg no. M268 ASD

It has 14,000 miles on the clock and FSH piles of receipts although the more recent services have been done by KwikFit

Mot is December but I expect it to pass no problem. The car has always been garaged and the bodywork is near perfect.

We know it's not a classic but would like it to go to a good home, possibly a collector or museum?

I would put it in a classic car auction, low mileage, mint, 'ordinary' cars quite often seem to get entered so must be worth a try.

Auction Houses such as H and H, Historics and Silverstone Auctions spring immediately to mind.

I'd stick it on ebay with a reserve you know you can get from one of the buying places & see how it goes. Some surprisingly dull normal stuff gets silly money for being mint & low mileage.

They are hardly chancers, did it not occur to you that they probably didn't want to buy your car?

As for the Metro value, you'd probably get £500 on ebay if the right 2 people wanted it, maybe more, try advertising it on http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/ for £1k and see if you get any offers

They promise to buy any car and they made you an offer that they were willing to pay and that you were free to accept or reject.

You chose to sell it elsewhere, so in what way does that make them chancers?

I think that i'd be offering her £400 if she was my granny, because : everyone needs a runabout.

Then I'd get it insured on a CLASSIC insurance policy, for £100 a year, and rag the arse off it.



I asked what my FIL's perfect 5 door 1.6 W reg mk4 astra was worth with 13000 miles and the answer was hardly anything more than one with 80K. ie £800 to £1400

They aren't 'rotten chancers', they are motor traders who give a price that makes it worthwhile for them to deal with and sell on with the minimum of hassle.

OP - there was a very similar question to this posted in the Telegraph motoring section at the weekend, although car in question had 38k miles. Basically the answer from Keith Adams (chap off AROnline) was that due to the demographic of the purchasers when new, a low mileage Metro/ Rover 100 is not unusual, however it may be worth putting in an ad on eBay or Auto Trader or Car and Classic seeking £995.

A couple of months ago I was looking at Metro's (after reading the Metro thread on here that opened up some warm memories of my two Austin Metro's, first and second cars) and some of the prices being asked... well some I'd say bordered on the insane, with one priced at £5 shy of £3K! Most that I've seen are knocking around the £500-£1000 mark depending on condition and mileage.

I'd have suggested around £1k as they are a little bit collectible now.

Maybe an ad for £1200ono then hopefully get £900ish for it.

With that mileage and in the condition you describe you should expect to see over £800 for it - don't settle for less.

If you want to put it through an auction I can recommend Anglia Car Auctions in King's Lynn. They deal with the lower end of the market in the main and get huge numbers through the door. You've just missed their latest sale, but there's another in the new year.

I've seen a few really low mileage late model metro/100's come up recently at garages they are not worth much even with ultra low mileage and rust free.

A dealer might try it at £995 to £1750.
Privately try it at £900 and take an offer.
I'll give you £500 if it's got a new mot and no rust issues.
