Got my only speeding ticket (so far - touch wood) in my dads maestro when I was 18 I think...it was a 1.6 vanden plas in metallic red and it had an electronic dash with voice alerts! It was cool...sort of!
My memory of it was it being pretty good rather than s
t but obviously I didn't have much reference material at the time.
Not sure I fancy another now but if one floats your boat then why not?

My dad had a 1.3L briefly as a company car. Thought it was pretty good back in the day - comfy seats and good ride, not that slow and with a 5-speed 'box motorway speeds were fine. Plenty of room inside too.

The montego was 7.1 the maestro was 6.7 being a fair bit lighter. The 2.8 Capri couldn't keep up with either. It had about 160HP and was very heavy although that was a plus for it as it was less inlcined to rot away due to its thicker steel. The RS Turbo IIRC was 8.6, we used to love taking the pee out of them with a standard Monty turbo in the late 80's.
