... in 50+ years

On January 29, at 12 noon precisely, a sound not heard since 1962 will echo across the courtyards of the National Motor Museum, when Blue Bird, the World Land Speed record-breaker, roars back to life.
At the swing of a starter handle, following years of detailed research and 2,000 hours of painstaking labour on its stricken 17.6-litre V12 engine, Sir Malcolm Campbell's Sunbeam 350hp record-breaker – better known as Blue Bird – will be fired up for the first time in more than 50 years, in front of an invited audience.

Thanks for the "heads up" Tim. I can't get there (even if I had been invited) but I will probably hear it all the way up here anyway smile

Not quite the first time hehe

Quote "The car is now is good running order and Hill has the honour of swinging the engine into action for the first time IN PUBLIC since the rebuild."

I'm sure they've had it running numerous times already and it will certainly have been "warmed up" on the day before the public are admitted. The last thing they would want it is not starting on the handle.

Now THAT I would love to see/hear. Let's hope some footage finds it's way onto the net for us mere mortals to enjoy!

Interesting to hear the roar of the V12 in the particular iteration of Bluebird they've pictured above the article...!

Incredible. Thanks for the video link.

I have a painting of this very car in my hallway. Envious of those who were there today

Fantastic! My BMW sounds a little rough and needs some throttle until it's warm as well, not quite the same though!

I was there for this and it was a cracking day.

Wasn't that loud to be honest but it wasn't revved particularly hard. When it's capable of moving under own power will be a joy to see and hear.

By hell it was cold standing out there though despite being wrapped up. Good to see and meet old familiar faces and catch up too.

Great to see these cars being revived but according to a bit of an expert on the subject:

I hardly recognised it as the radiator cowl is too wide and it has a fairing over the rear suspension. As it is blue I suspect they have rebuilt it to capitalise on Campbell's legend.

I think he has a point:

The car in the workshop with a pic of it behind at Goodwood, the last time it ran in public.

Yes it has been running for a few months now 'in private' hehe
When first started it was running very roughly, the problem was later found to be the up-draught carbs, so its always advisable to try in private first !
