From my knowledge of TVR's, £5k is the very bottom of the Chimaera market and you'd be better looking at a decent V6 'S' or V8 wedge.

Some interesting suggestions.

I'm all BMW'd out, selling and E28 and still have one.

The Fiat coupe is a bit fugly, not sure about the Alpine either.

I'm on the fence about the 924/944, but I do fancy the 928.

Not sure the Citroen would cope with my miles too well.

I was going to suggest that as well. Used a 8.32 as a daily driver a few years ago, mine was reliable and fun to drive but they are all LHD and FWD so there are compromises to be taken. Only major downsides are scarcity and cost of parts and belts for the V8 but it does make a lovely noise.

£5K should get you a faitly good P5B Saloon or a reasonable P5B Coupe which you could improve over time - Of course the 3 litre versions are a little cheaper and oh so smooth.

All P5s feel special to drive.

I think, for now, I'll hang on for a Chimaera and see what happens. Or rush out and buy the next unsuitable car I see.

I do think the 944 is an appreciating classic well up to modern traffic and rust resistant (galvanised) and can be maintained pretty easily. The trim is flimsy but parts are about and not daft money. The older cars by Triumph/Rover/Hillman/Humber/Ford/Wolseley/MG/Austin/Morris etc are rust prone and generally not up to modern traffic speeds. I would avoid the 924 it is a poor relation. Few classic cars are rustproof and really driveable. The 944 is.

Chimaera Vs P5B - I have both.#

Chi is great for sunny day blasts and top down fun but I wouldn't want to spend hours in traffic or on a motorway either being buffeted about or with the hood up.

The P5B will cruise happily at motorway speeds or sit for hours in traffic leaving you calm and relaxed.

Very different cars for very different applications but with the same engine.

Depends what you want from the car.

Woken up thinking I need a Silver Shadow!

For petrol consumption reasons it couldn't be my daily car. This is a stumbling block as its a daily car I need.
