looking for decent laid up cover for a kit car and possibly sunbeam lotus for a few months, any suggestions for agreed value please let me know. currently insured with footman james and will be contacting them in the week, but my cover has jumped a bit with them anyway so was going to shop around.

My insurers refused off-road fire and theft cover; insure it or cancel the insurance was their attitude. My reason was that my garage had the car for a rebuild so it was covered by them, but it didn't help.

I found it was cheaper to cover it on a very limited mileage policy (1500 miles IIRC).

i'm with FJ too,and when I asked for laid up cover few years back the lady on the other end said 'it's not an option because you have a classic policy'.

last year I asked again and the chap on the phone said 'yes no problem,just notify us when you want to return to full cover'

plus it only cost a third of the normal premium.looks like it depends who answers the phonerolleyes

FJ = Footman James

I think garagewidow is saying they got a different response from different people at FJ, not that they used someone other than FJ.

I have laid up cover from RH Classics. £35 I think it is for the year.
