Seat belt warning lights

Hi

A question about seat belts and the new MOT regs for classic cars?

I need to put new seat-belts in my 1972 Jensen Healey and was going to do away with the seat belt warning light as I can't find replacement seat belts with the warning light switch fitted. However now we have the new MOT law that says if a warning light is fitted it must work, how does this leave the older classic cars? If i take the warning light off the dash completely put a plain blank in the hole, you could say that there's no warning light fitted so it doesn't have to work. Or is it a case that if it was fitted with one from new then it must have one now and it must be working?

I don't want to go to the expence of buying new seat belts only to have the car fail the MOT.

I think you'll be okay.

The tester would not know the car came with a warning light. If you don't have a light he can't test it. You could always speak to your MOT man, I've found most of them quite helpfull and fair.

Your ok, on a car that age the seat belt warning light is irrelevant, it only matters on newer cars with the seat belts tiedinto the airbag/srs system warning light.

I bet not many 1972 cars had seat-belt warning lights. The 1972 Morgan I had didn't and yours is the first car of that age I've heard of that does.

Suspect you've got little to worry about, although I'd make sure the bulb was removed and the warning lamp didn't look like it was used.
