Any suggestions for a decent and careful panel dipper that also dips them with a protective coating afterwards.Based in the midlands but dont mind travelling to th right place.Have heard some bad stories about a few places damaging shells and panels so need somewhere that takes good care.

Only place I know of is these guys in the west midlands, about 10 minutes away from me, I was going to get the front panel of the quattro done at some point.

Heard varying stories of panels and shells getting dented due to rough handling, might be worth phoning them and asking for some kind of guarantee perhaps.

I have sent lots of stuff to SPL and never had a problem, good system, good idea and makes it easy to repair the panels properly.
The dip stuff can hang about in folded seams though so some people have had problems when it comes time to paint, I tend to be pulling such places apart during restoration anyway so have had no problems.
If you have a shell done then pay attention to areas that look ok but have been thinned by rust and now that rust has gone they can be weak but look good outside, pin holes are the tell !

Thanks for the reply i will give them a call.I am restoring 2 sunbeam lotus's and have collected a few panels and doors that need dipping.

When the car is finished i will do the resto thread.The metalwork and body panels are been done by an old school bentley trained metalworker and the paintwork is been done by the most particular restorer i have come across.I have picked up a lot but the photos need words and it is not my expertise at all so i will spend time going through all the photos that they have taken and put words to them at a later date.I do know there will be no filler and a lot of tapping and filing And will you do a resto thread?
