A quick project but not everyones cup of tea
Discussion
A friend of mine was selling some of his cars this week which have been off the road for a while. I bought a volvo 142s 1968. Not everyones cup of tea but meant to be a good car to drive (I've had an Amazon so expecting similar but with more power) and there is only 1 on the road in UK so pretty rare.
Even better is that it has gone to the garage to be put back on the road to find all metal work on car is completley solid with one repair needed. According to last owner it has never been welded. Not bad for a 46 year old car.
Now I have a debate. Do I keep completely stock? Was debating about getting it painted in Swedish police colours. I will probably get period volvo cosmic alloys, which were used on p1800. Any thoughts? Be nice lol.

That is the way I'm leaning. Keep it original blue. Will keep the original wheels with car but may drive round with cosmics on for a while. I only bought it to have something to drive for next few months as the p1800 is taking longer than expected. Plus I do think it has a cool retro appeal and the rarity factor.
Love an old Volvo, had several over the years.
400 yards away is a 4 door version of that , in regular use, bit scruffy but has been like that for the 23 years I have lived here.
Would love to drop a T5 lump in an old saloon but the gearboxes needed are getting rare , some swede keeps buying them all.(960 manual)

Fantastic! Yes, keep it original.
Back in the late 70's my mate Ben at primary school had one (well the 145 estate) and I used to get the occasional lift to school in it. It was a sort of a 70's turquoise, with black fake leather interior that was shiny and would heat up to the surface temperature of the sun in the summer. I remember the reg - OTK 356J. It even had fold down rear facing seats in the load area and it was a real treat to go in them.
The dash had a horizontal speedo with a little red arrow you could manually slide along the speed scale as a primitive speed limit reminder!
His father was a serial Volvo-ist and replaced it with an orange 244, then a silver 240 GLT wagon - cool as hell!
Edit to add pic... it looked like this, same colour but without the rusty door bottom. And talking of bottoms, I don't remember Ben's mum looking anything like that....

Mine has the horizontal Speedo as well. It is a follow on from the amazon. The 2 door is rare as a rhd 2 door was a special order from Sweden. Therefore not many were brought into the country. I know of 1 other rhd 2 door and I know of 2 left hand drive 2 doors which are off the road but that's about it. There are plenty of lhd abroad though.
There is def a rally version and I think a touring car version. It's running on a twin carb b18 engine which is just shy of 120bhp I believe. So has a bit of poke. Never seen such large rear wings on a car lol.
I think it will stay stock. I was going to buy a 144 from same guy and make it into a true retro car with tuned engine etc but sadly it was just too rotten. I love the fact that this one is in such good condition. Big comparison to my 1800 lol.

Lovely car. I suppose keeping it original since there aren't many left, is the decent thing to do.
I've had my 144s for more than 20 years. Utterly reliable, with suspension that'll take big bumps without creaking. It's been to the alps for skiing holidays and always started in very cold weather. I bought it for 200 Pounds and thought I would run it until the next MOT, and then scrap it, but was so impressed with the quality that I've kept it.
