So I sold some of my toys and bought a rather agreeable Wingfield D.
Originally bought by Henry Taylor the racing driver and is a doppelgänger of his 1st D the Border Reivers TKF9. (Thanks Lowdrag for the heads up)
Lovely patina and stunning in old English white.
It came from Europe so I bought some new self adhesive plates. For 12 quid off evilbay. I KNEW I'd make a balls up of it.
They went on so-so. Does anyone know someone who can fit a set crease free? is it possible?!
Pic for your peruse....

I doubt that you will get it off without stretching it or bits of it sticking to itself.
If you want to try it again spray a small amount of weak soapy water, (or you could go to a professional place and ask them for an eggcups worth of application fluid) on the bodywork first and then put the sticker on. You can then apply pressure from the middle and squeeze the air bubbles out to the edge. Compound curves are tricky but are doable. Also helps if it's warm.
Lovely car!

It was built in '75 killing an XK140. Different times then.Taylor was a very wealthy man. He owned the SunSeeker boat concession on the Cote D'Azur. Not to mention being a Former F1 driver and Ford Motorsport boss.
Duncan (Adrian) Hamilton liaised with Taylor and Wingfield to build this D. Cosworth assembled its engine. Wingfield fitted a live axle to his machines.
Carlos Monteverde owns TKF9
RIP Henry. He passed in September and by all accounts was an utter gent.
Its unrestored 40 years makes it look more real than a freshly restored real one which is hugely ironic...
This is no ordinary D and I haven't got £3m for a works car. Lord knows what a Le Mans winner's worth? £7m? £20m?
(FYI a Lynx started at £240k inc vat but they have recently stopped production)

One problem is that the black backing for the original stick on plates is actually quite thick and therefore difficult to attach wrinkle free onto a curved panel.
A better bet is to buy the backing from a sign shop - they have various grades, some very flexible -
AIRC there is one called '1200 grade' which has a fair amount of stretch to take up the curves.
In fact a sign place will probably cut the letters for you as well!
