Pacet/ Kenlowe fan check.

This may appear blindingly obvious to some but did not occur to me so feel free to learn by my mistake.....10 years ago I fitted a pair of 10inch Pacet fans to my radiator to assist in cooling the mid engine V8 whilst in traffic and a fine job they have done without a single overheat.
The fixings supplied consisted of "zip rods" that secure each corner of the fan housing by passing through them and then through the radiator core before being held in place at the rear by button clips. When they are new this system works fine however with repeated heating and cooling together with vibration the thin plastic zip rods stretch allowing the now loose fan housing to rub against the rad core. This movement will never be seen in action and not detected unless specifically examined or the car overheats through coolant loss. In my case this has resulted in the rad core needing to be replaced. Just a suggestion before you suffer the same inconvenience/cost....check your fans have not become loose as a new fixing kit is only a few quid.

Very good point. The aux Kenlowe on my old DS rally car suffered a similar fate, in the end we built a bespoke fixed mount so it could be forgotten about.

OP, this is quite a common occurrence and surprised these type of fixings are still being sold by some suppliers.

Ben's solution is the best, and/or, find a supplier who knows the proper way to mount the fans, either sucker or blower. Have recently spoken with Revotec as need twin slimline sucker fans for my car...they understand individual applications ensuring correct cfm see http://www.revotec.com/

So well known now. I am rebuilding my E-type and, while it isn't perhaps pertinent to you, bought from an American company called Cool Cat. The fan bolts in the place of the original, has no cable ties, and does the job. Surely someone might be able to provide the same for your car?

Thanks for the suggestions...I had already vetoed the idea of using the plastic ties again and have just come in from the workshop having finished the new steel frame to hold the fans. The main aim of the post is to warn the uninitiated and save them the grief.
