Classic Car Insurance
Discussion
I've just treated myself to a little classic car.
Because I'm under 30, half the companies won't insure me. The other half won't as I don't have a garage for it.
The only one coming close is Admiral with their agreed valuation policy. The only slight snag is that it's not an agreed valuation! It's a dictated valuation. This is how they work. You pay for the policy. Then pay an extra £10 'admin' fee. They show it to their underwriters who tell you what the thing is worth. There's no discussion. For instance, they could value the thing for half the value...and I have no idea until after the policy is paid up. They also won't allow me to pay the £10''admin' fee in advance to find out what it is. A bit of a joke really.
Anyone recommend an insurer?

Excuse my ignorance but what stipulates that a car is suitable for classic car insurance? I'm in the market for a fun weekend car and have all sorts on my short list.
I think it depends on the insurance company. I always thought cars had to be 20 years old to qualify, but Dad has his Boxster S on a classic policy - He is with RH Specialist insurance and cars on an '03' reg or older qualified.Have you tried RH Insurance? http://www.rhclassicinsurance.co.uk/classic-car-in...
I've got my MX5 insured with them on a classic policy. My car is garaged but I don't think they insist on it.
EDIT: Just noticed they've already been mentioned above...

Thanks for that mate, helps me massively
There are quite a few insurers who do cherished and future classic policies. It appears to be totally arbitrary as to whether a particular car qualifies. Several insurers didn't think my 2001 Jaguar XKR convertible qualified for either. Others thought it did.
For the op try ClassicLine as they are a broker so can offer policies from several insurers.
So, thanks for all the recommendations so far - keep em coming!:
FJ - Aren't interested as under 30.
Lynbrook - Don't want to insure me as I'm under 30 and it won't be garaged.
Peter Best - Waiting for a call back.
RH - Managed to miss them today - will try tomorrow.
A Plan - Had no success in the past with them. Worth another call I guess.
Gott & Wynn - Waiting for a call back.
Heritage - Not interested. Think it was age with them.
Classic Line - Will call tomorrow.

Is this a second car? Only most insurers wont give out a classic policy on an only car and NCD is not accrued on a classic policy also.
Lancaster will, of at least would ten years ago.
