Hi Guys

I have come to own what seems to be a VERY rare genuine old stock smith duel brake gauge.

I am struggling to find ANY info on this gauge.

I have contacted all the gauge reconditioner I found on the net, I have rung around the likes of speedy cables (who make the new smiths stuff)

I even called AP in a vain attempt

Does anyone know anything about this gauge????

what could it be worth?????

Its looks very much like the twin oil and water smiths gauge only its reads front and rear brake pressure

Probably off a lorry. I think the Ford D Series trucks used Smiths gauges.

They are, but most have a pressure guage to show how full the air tanks are. Usually measured in Bar. A photo would help.

That's definitely from a lorry of some description.

The fact it's in kg/cm2 is interesting, maybe suggests it's slightly more recent, thought it would be in lb/ft2

Could be off something European such as Volvo or Scania.

I still think it is from a Ford D Series. Bedfords had a combination cluster integrated with the fuel, temperature and dash warning lights.

Civvie ones may have, the military ones had a strip speedo, with fuel/temp gauge, the other gauges were smiths, this doesn't look like that though, the thing that makes that gauge strange is the wording, it says front brakes/rear brakes, that's what's strange, brake gauge aren't worded like that, also its not in pounds or bar.

We had an old 60s TK and that had the strip speedo with fuel and water temp. It had no other gauges despite having air brakes. I guess the army wanted extra gauges.

I agree that most have a pictorial symbol for front and rear axles - my Iveco does. The Ford Cargo I had previously had a separate gauge for each tank with a pictorial of a tank annotating the gauge.

Never been in a TK, but the MK had two extra gauges if I remember correctly, the MJ had a anticlock wise rev counter under the dash as well, the MJ was an MK with a turbo on it, it would do 45 flat out instead of 35.
The brakes on these was quite interesting, they had an air system that operated an actuator mounted midway down the chasis, they were then hydraulic, the handbrake was a mechanical type, as fitted to a car.
