Van but sort of Classic

Does anyone know of a good Bedford CF2 for sale?

I have a business that I want to run either a CF or older Transit, even a Citroen H van as a bit of a novelty. I don't want a "project" or rotbox, but a well preserved or restored older van.

I was tempted to an ex BT Bedford HA but it's not big enough.

Any other suggestions considered...

p.s. I have an old 1989 CF2 Ambulance I can use for mechanical spares hence that is top of the list. And I liked it.

What about a VW T25 van? Getting quite rare as most vans seem to get converted to campers, but they do have a bit of character compared to a modern van. You can fit a more modern tdi engine to give a bit more power.

I am thinking along the same lines if I start a business, to stand out a bit.

Decent old vans are exceptionally rare and therefore command high prices. I paid £500 for my last VW bay window Panel van (yes it was a long time ago) I recently looked at ratty one on eBay - they were asking £6800, but of course for all the workhorse ones like mine that died there are only a few survivors. I think you will struggle even more with a CF - I drove those at the time and preferred them to the Transit (and my VW which was just awful) but they were largely unloved.

Very very expensive, but I think you are effectively buying a new van there.

Good panel T25s are scarce, though - as you say, most have been campered. But vans also tend to be cheapish.

As for H-vans, don't look at the prices of those. They'll scare you, too, having gone utterly barking in the last year or two. And that's before the kitchen/coffee machine fit...

Bit left field but how about a Peugeot J5? In LHD form I'm always amazed how many are still in regular use in France

MK1 VW LT? Bulletproof, plenty of character, cheaper than T25s, loads of space too.

Where do you want to use it? If in London then diesels may be out due to the LEZ zone.

They certainly have some old-school cool about them. I didn't think they were 2-strokes though. And didn't someone just recently buy one on here? I'm sure I read about it somewhere.

They ran the 1500/1725 hunter engine , the two strokes are in TS3 trucks which were an old Tilling Stevens design.
Old vans are very rare in good order so will command a premium price.

I would think the CF2 will be even rarer than the earlier CF as by the time they came out Ford had already fitted the direct injection diesel in the the Transit, and that spelt the death knell for petrol engined vans, diesel vans before that were pretty thin on the ground, nowadays I dont think anyone makes a petrol engined van even special order.

That's a Commer PB, later sold as a Dodge Spacevan. Engines were the 1500/1600/1725 Rootes Petrol or the Perkins 4108 diesel. Never a two-stroke - that was Commer lorries.

I say CF2 but CF1 would also tick the box.

(When I had a Maserati 228, I needed a new bearing in the 5 speed box. Turned out it was the same dog leg box from a CF and the parts were a considerably cheaper from Bedford sources...)
