Was it true that if you passed a patrolman and he did not salute there was a speed trap ahead?

hi,thanks for your interest in the original motoring club.
yes patrols were on motorcycle and sidecars until around the mid 1950,s then went over to morris and austin vans,thats when the saluting had to stop,proberly for safety reasons.
on the motor cycles they did warn drivers of police traps and problems on the road.
i joined the rac in 1977,with a morris marina blue and white van,the best job i,v had.
