Trying to work out the collision of the Maser and the Micra. Rear off-side on Maser and front N/S on Micra. Something doesn't add up for sure. Was the Maser spinning perhaps?

Looks like a standard shunt to me: Maser slowed or stopped, Micra didn't, (acquaplaning seems to be an option) - the contact points are offset on the back & front, either because of a desperate atempt by the Micra to avoid the Maser, or because the Micra is narrower than the Maser. Either way, the side damage on the Maser is just a result of the offset compression.

Right on sir! Looks like the Micra shunted the right corner of the Maser and - hey presto.

None of you have the faintest idea of what actually happened - pure speculation.

I spent the last 30 years of my professional life as a Collision Investigation Officer (and still provide independent specialist advice to Coroners Courts). The collection of various pieces of physical evidence, witness statements and detailed reconstruction etc will be required before the full FACTS are known.

Looks a very strange place to crash. Looks to me to be near the junction on the sports facility. If it was a rear end shunt, i'd expect to be adjacent to it or past it.
Maybe he had to do an emergency stop for somebody stopping out, though thats also strange as there is little reason to cross there.
I know the area fairly well. He was heading towards Bishopthorpe. There are college sports facilities in the area and a little facilities building and turning loop just ahead but even accessing that wouldn't require a great deal of braking.
