The wife wants another Fiat 500 and we have spotted a nice looking example on the south coast, does anyone provide a service for getting classics assessed ? I know what 500s can be like, can look superb in pictures but be made of 90 percent P45 and prayers. I dont want to do a 400 mile round trip if I can pay someone more local and experienced to drop by and pay them to report back.

Then, its 190 miles away from us, want to avoid travelling to see it or pick it up, wouldn't fancy 200 miles in a 500 how much would transporting a car 190 miles cost ?

may sound a bit lazy, just dont really have the time at the moment.

It doesn't help with the remote assessment element of your query, but I collected a car from a long distance away (150 miles or so) by hiring a trailer for £40 and towing it home. Can't imagine a 500 weighing too much so you should be able to get away with a lightweight trailer, then most cars with a tow bar will probably tow it OK.

Depends on where on the south coast - there are a number of Alfa classic car restorers down Southampton Brighton Dorset area - I am sure one of them would be prepared to inspect the car for a fee - depends on whether that is what you are looking for

Easy enough to find plenty of transporters on the 'net/Ebay (not that you'd trust all of them) but I had a big old 1936 Austin moved from Kent to N. Wilts for under £200.

I had my Peugeot delivered from Birmingham to East Anglia (170 miles) for £190 a couple of weeks ago.

Used him to check over an old Alfa Spider I wanted to buy......money very well spent since it looked great....but would have required a good £2k to get it through the MOT & that probably was just the start. Was on sale for top money also. He charges around £300 from memory.

He'll call you in the evening with a detailed verbal assessment so you can decide whether to proceed & then post the report to you the same week . I was very happy I used him.
