Quick appeal to the Pistonhead knowledgebase as I have no clue... A work colleague had mentioned to me that he has a grille off an old car in his garage, but no idea what it's from, if it's worth anything to anyone or if it's just scrap. Can anyone shed any light as to what it may be from?

Thanks smile

Possibly an old Rover of some description.

Dunno but I don't think it's Rover the badge used to be in the central bar so that would flare to a "V" at the top if you follow me.

No idea what it's from, but if it's heading bin-wards, I'll save it!

Doh, didn't think to post this in classics! Thanks for the opinions so far folks. Certainly looks the same as some of the variants I've just looked up online. He'd thought of making a feature of it somehow/where but I'll see if I can find out ultimately what he wants to do with it.

We've had a look closer at the pictures of 420g grilles (makes for an exciting lunchtime) and not entirely sure it is that. If you compare the two, the 420g seems more curved at the left and right edges, and has 19 fins/spokes to each side of the grille, whereas this one has 18. Also, there's clearly a pronounced cross bracing mid height on this one that I'm failing to see on any of the 420g grilles.

The mystery continues...until you tell me what it is biggrin

Is it just my eyes or does that chromed grill look a lot curvier at the edges? The number of vertical spokes/fins seems to match on that version, but I'm still struggling to see any prominent horizontal brace either.

If it's not 420G then it's probably 420.

Of course it's the Jag. You can even see the outline of where the badge has been.

Bottom of the centre bar looks set back on the OP's, not so on the 420s. I don't know either!

I'm counting 18 vertical bars each side of the central one on the shiny 420g pictures, but only 17 on my mate's. It does otherwise look very similar apart from the sides looking more curved on the shiny chrome ones, but is that just the reflections in the chrome creating more of a curved look rather than the flat perished metal?

I'm not saying it's not a 420g one, and twink's nice closer shot certainly shows the bracing bars well enough to make me think more it's a 420g, but then it has one more vertical bar each side, what gives?!

Appreciate the responses from all, it's certainly a better idea so far of what it could be smile
