The "I wonder if I should have kept this?...." thread.....
..starting off with this:-
Before me, it had done just 12000 miles in 5 years with the one lady owner [honest] -she only bought it because she really liked the colour and because the man in the showroom told her it was NOT an 'older lady' sort of car...and he had flatly refused, initially, to sell it to her ...

I suppose I could virtually say every car or bike I've owned, given my age. A few off the top of my head would include the BSA Gold Star for £40 which would now be £15,000, Cooper S 1293cc Alexander Stage 2 conversion and my M6 but by the same token the two cars I have now have more than made up for the financial loss those engendered. Swings and roundabouts I guess. Can't always win! Just figure if you had kept all the houses you've lived in!
I picked up this 998 Mini for £1500 about 8 years ago.
It had been bought new by an old lady in 1972. She ran it for 10 years before giving up driving.
She parked it in her garage next to the central heating boiler, where it lay undisturbed until I bought it.
It had done 12,000 miles and was totally original.
I spent about £250 sorting it out. Usual stuff: Master cylinder and wheel cylinders, thermostat, water pump, radiator, a couple of hoses and a petrol tank. Needed a new carpet, as the original one had turned to powder.
I sold it for about £2500.....

I can't remember why but I watched a review of these on youtube. I think the fact there are hardly any around now I seem to have more respect for them. Just like any car really. I hope to keep all my cars forever, provided there is space at my mums house for them!..starting off with this:-

oh yes, I have learnt now - I try not to sell ANYTHING anymore -snag is -the motorhouse is now choked with ## cars and I need to think about an extension....The Ford Racing Puma still seems bargain priced in fact ...hmmm
I have a few, main one is my 68 Dodge Charger, sold about ten years ago after owning it less than two years, was a dream car too
Sold it as i seen it as money tied up at the time, sold it too quickly without much thought, if only i'd realised that when it was gone i'd NEVER get the chance own another

Good old hindsight eh.
I regret getting rid of my '71 Mini Super with stage two MG Metro engine and Cooper S discs. I was blinded by the lights of my recently purchased VW Golf GTi MK2 at the time. Irony being, the Mini would now be worth a couple of Golfs.
I also sold my 1976 VW Microbus for £400, fully functioning with MOT.
And, a lovely 1990 MG Metro Turbo in white with around 45k miles to someone who wanted the running gear for a kitcar.
Dilemma being I've now kept my BMW M535i for far far longer than 'normal' for me. Its now at a spend on or sell stage - Argh!
