Anyone have any period 1600E pics? Or 1600E/Savage? Ford did a few (maybe 50??) 2-door rhd 1600Es, do any survive?
Well here's mine taken about 1980 and my first decent car. Period features are the Krooklok (absolutely vital), Bunny sticker (the previous owner put that on there honest), and a 1600E Owners Club sticker in the back. I still had the chrome Rostyles but had replaced them with Appliance Steel Spokes as was the fashion at the time.I still have it but it has been unused for many years and needs a complete resto. It will happen one day.
Nice Amber s2 there, thx for sharing pic. Appliance 4 spokes were popular swap for Cortinas and Capris, still a bit like rostyles but wider and "more American" looking. Probably fitted with 195/70 "low profile" radials, white letter BF Goodrich or Goodyear. Note extra keylock behind rear door.
Many (far too many) started the decline into bangerdom by being fitted with leaf spring jack up kits and having the lovely original interior covered in dralon or fur. CB aerials, muralled paint, wheezy V6 engines from scrapyard Mk4 Zephyr Zodiacs (which tended to wreck the nice 2000E box and did sub 20mpg on the standard 3.77 diff) etc also popular. But such was the trend at the time.
I wonder how many standard 1600Es still around now went through this treatment.
I didn't personally own a 1600E, there weren't that many good ones around late 80s and my interests were towards 3litre Capris. My dad had an excellent one JSO 300H which I loved. A good mate had a rather tired M2 s2 Lotus in late 80s, worn out suspension and brakes made for a disappointing driving experience at the time. Would love to drive a good one.
