Am in the UK this week and I am thinking of driving over to Essen for Techno Classica Essen. Have any pistonheads been? Worth a look? Many cars and bikes for sale there?

Any good? It's the biggest and by far the best classic show in Europe! I've been going for 20 years and never been disappointed - I'm driving over on Wednesday, just as I do every year. Hundreds of cars for sale from some of the most prestigious dealers to individual owners with prices to match. Lots and lots to enjoy, just give yourself plenty of time, three or four days should be enough.

It's a straight forward (if boring) route from Calais/Dunkirk via Antwerp. When you reach Essen, be aware that there's an 'emission zone'. Here's the info about it:http://www.siha.de/tce_uk.php?m=2&ms=5

As already said, it's a brilliant show!

Been going off and on for the last 20 years as well, and always enjoyed it.

Worth looking at the Meilenwerk, Dusseldorf, while you are there, even though most of the stock might be at Essen.

As for driving roads, you can get some good roads by avoiding the autoroute/autobahn, but it will take ages.

Best to just get there, then head to the Nurburgring if you want decent roads.

there are some great drives on just about all of the roads heading away from the Nurburgring.

I am going to be there for the afternoon tomorrow (Thursday) as I am in Dusseldorf - Any highlights anyone would suggest I focus on? I'll get there around 12:30 and need to leave around 16:30/17:00 to head across to Dortmond Airport (I don't have a car with me)

I had 4 hours there between my meeting and flight home (so long as I catch it - awful traffic)

I'll get some photos up later
