Porsche 944 Turbo
Discussion
Well, let's start this thread again.
Here, I will write about my 1990 Porsche 944 Turbo. It is a genuine car, never been in an accident and is totally totally original; apart from items replaced when being maintained. It's on 97K and I think, for it's age it is in very good condition. Have the mini 'Porsche' compressor and original tool kit also.
The history is not perfect, lots of the original paperwork was lost by it last keeper who basically owned it from new, but I do have some things with it and all the original documentation including the service book (stamped). It was also owned by a couple of dealers (one before the long term owner and one after).
So, it has big brakes, sporty suspension, it is the later 250 bhp model, has the relatively rare Porsche CS alloys and has a lovely weight distribution so it's fun on the twisties. I will not list all the features of the car as I am sure I will make a little mistake here and there and get shouted at by a 'much cleverer and brighter' person. The stereo is also the original and it still works!
I think that sometimes pictures speak louder than words, so here are some pictures.
I have previously owned a number of Turbo cars (not Porsche) and they have always been well cared for and looked after. I intend to do the same with this one until I eventually sell it on. I work in a far away country, so I don't get to use it or even sit in it much.
Hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I do .....

That is an uncommonly clean and original '90 Turbo.
I don't know how it is insured, but with the way that the cars are increasing in value, I'd be looking at an agreed value of £20,000 for a car in that condition(!).
Were the forged wheels original?
I don't know about the wheels being original or not. I know they have never been refaced or painted. I assume so; as the last owner did not change anything at all on the car. I suppose someone, somewhere at Porsche will know this.I don't know how it is insured, but with the way that the cars are increasing in value, I'd be looking at an agreed value of £20,000 for a car in that condition(!).

Lovely example. How is ig keeping the bkack clean?
Still miss my 89 SE Turbo S turbomatic in baltic blue with linen leather
Yes, black is a bugger! Last time I was at home, and before the pics were taken above, I clayed it and mopped with various compounds and pads, Sealed it with carlack and then waxed it. The issue with black cars owned by folk who don't particularly understand car polishing is that the end up with marring and holograms all over them. Plus, of course swirl marks that affect how the car looks in sunlight and affect depth of reflection. Still miss my 89 SE Turbo S turbomatic in baltic blue with linen leather
The mopping was done to remove the above (though more work is needed at a future date) and make it easier to keep this way after each consecutive wash in the future.
Black is still a pig, but when it is looked after it in the right manner, it does help .......... a little

A photograph of the build sticker will provide the answer, I think. You'll find it on page three of your service book, or under the hatch carpet, between the rear lamps. When you know the specified options it'll be clearer.
It isn't a '90! It is a 1989 Turbo. Missed the obvious - which makes the wheels original too. The car was registered late, which wasn't uncommon. My 1988 Turbo was registered after the '89 model was launched. The 10th character in your VIN will be 'K' and a '90 (which would have a bridge spoiler and 928GT-derived wheels) would be 'L'.

The 10th character is indeed K (I have a photo of the log book on my computer). Registered in September 1990 - Long wait for the first owner then!Edited by Patch234 on Monday 15th June 07:04

That's a lovely looking 944 turbo. You must be well chuffed with it
It's a nice feeling to own one of these. The driving position; in-fact the entire car is very low (it's deceptive, I never really realised how low they were) that gives a really sporty feel to them once in the car. When returning home, owning one in this condition, does add that something else to the enjoyment of it all

You need to SORN it, otherwise there will be a nasty surprise on your doormat when you get home!
Id suggest Classicline for insurance. Locktons have a pretty good club scheme too, although Classicline were better for me.
Good call, just done that online. Surprisingly easy! I have it insured of course and to answer an earlier question the agreed value I set was £18,000. Hard to know if to up that as there really isn't much on the market to compare this price too!Id suggest Classicline for insurance. For a car that clean/rare Id consider joining PCGB and getting a valuation. Find out where 944s usually fall down and labour its strengths in these areas. Id expect a valuation of well over £18,000, considering that a written off (pre-categorisation) '90 with the wrong turbo and missing its AOR transaxle recently sold for not far short of your current insured value.
