Registering a vehicle from Brazil imported by someone else

I'm looking at a '71 VW split screen camper (Fleetline) that's been very recently imported into the UK from Brazil by someone else. I've seen emails stating the VAT and duties have been paid and the original log book (yet to see the actual documents) but how hard will it be for me to register. The owner/importer tells me it's just a case of filling in the appropriate form and getting an MOT and sending it off to the DVLA along with £170 fee. Is this the case or will I encounter lots of aggravation as I'm not the guy who imported it. Or could I get stung for other charges and it become a general ball ache!?
