Since buying a newer car (94 SL Merc) I've found ordinary insurance more competitive than classic insurance.

Has any one had any joy with classic insurance on a newer car?

I've been paying £200 (or thereabouts) for the past 5 years or so on my X308 on classic car policies. Then I asked my insurance co for my daily driver (Vauxhall GTC) how much extra to add the Jag to the policy?

£98!

(And it will start earning its own NCD after the first year!)

It depends whether you want agreed value or not. You are comparing apples and oranges.

Agreed value is unimportant, some classic policies come with European road side assistance though.

A lot of classic insurers don't view newer cars like your merc as a classic, even though they are used in the same way. So you may well be better off with a normal insurer.

Don't underestimate the importance of agreed value though, unless you're prepared to take hit should the worse happen.

The car is @ the cheaper end of the price spectrum, book value would be good enough.

Looks like Saga/MSM European breakdown cover this year.

Can anyone help. I have just got a VW LT35 tipper 1985 and I am looking for classic insurance. Where do I go? I went through Carole Nash they would not quote on a van and transferred me where I got a quote of £330.

It seems very high to me, where else should I go?

I use A Plan for my classic car insurance, my 1600e Cortina is £98 a year, fully comp with agreed value and 5k miles per year.

ClassicLine cover my 92 XJS as well as my older heaps. V reasonable, v good. Just over 500 quid for five cars, comp. I have six speeding points, no accidents, live in an OK area.

I think all insurance companies have tightened down on van insurance. I would recommend Adrian Flux for really adverse quotes as they managed to insure my Renault Espace.. with a Jet Engine in the back for £600!

I have arranged my insurance today with Hagerty Classic Car insurance and was very impressed with their service and saved £60 on last year. I am a strong believer in service vs cost, that said it was only £192 for my 944 S2 Cab.

Im paying £150 for my 944 Turbo (with Classicline) and £131 & £115 for my MG ZR TD+s with Peter Best.

F and 53/53 registrations.
