Anyone have access to a 85-92 Volvo 7xx series?

I need the collective wisdom to help identify my failed brake booster.
Its on my Jensen Interceptor, and repair here locally (Aus) is eye-wateringly expensive (especially if it turns out to be a Volvo unit, they are available relatively cheaply for a new one!).
I can send it back to the UK, but then shipping ends up being worth more than the unit so Im after a way to identify and then look around for the best deal.

If anyone has access to the brake booster from a 7 series (even if its in situ and an approx from above with a ruler), Non-ABS model, can you measure across the front mounts (where the master cylinder attaches to) and the distance between the rear, 4 mounts/studs?

I think its from a Volvo 7 series (740/760/780) but as it has no markings that I can see, its a look and guess.



The Volvo's dont appear to have been that common over here, so they are few and far between to be able to find one that I can measure.

Not very good with the photoshop, but these are the measurements I need from the 7xx unit.

I have a 1990 Volvo 760. When I get home from work I'll see if I can take some usable measurements for you.

Mine is an ABS model though.

No problem if its ABS as at least I can rule out if it is or isnt the ABS model booster I need!

Righto, I've been and taken a look at the servo on my Volvo. It doesn't look anything like the picture you've posted (sorry)!

I got a rough measurement of the distance between the stud centres on the front of the servo where the master cylinder bolts up. This is approximately 60 mm. I couldn't get an accurate measurement due to the master cylinder and heat shield getting in the way.

I tried to get a measurement of the studs at the back which bolt the servo to the bulkhead, unfortunately I couldn't get to them as there is a lot of trim in the way. Sorry I haven't been much use.

I did take a couple of pictures for you though, I'll post them up tomorrow for you (I'm using the wife's new fangled tablet thing to post this this evening!).

If its fitted to an Interceptor then I would very much doubt its a Volvo 700 series servo as they werent in production at the same time as an Interceptor. It could possibly be from the last of the Volvo 120 series, the Volvo 140/160 series or an early 240 series.

The reason the OP thinks that it "could" be from a Volvo is because he lives in a land very far away and the original Jensen parts are not readily available. So the guess is that someone in the past has fitted a Volvo servo in place of the original Jensen one.

Almost certainly Jaguar MK X post '64, i.e. 4.2 litre, or early XJ6 Series 1.

I might be able to lay my hands on one, but I don't know how much the post is to Oz.

I reckon its from a Jaguar, send an image to David Manners, they have a brilliant book from in period that tells you what parts are common to different vehicles such as austin A35 boot hinges fit daimler dart or Massey ferguson clutch plate fits sries 1 e type. They may be able to point you at the right scrap part from another vehicle

Thank you so much for the photos and the effort you went to bob..really appreciate it.
Im thinking they must have changed over at some point as the images in my original post are from a number of eBay ads for Volvo 7xx brake boosters.
Either they have all (as there are more than one) used the wrong photo or they changed the design somewhere their lifetime.

Everyone else..thanks for the replies. I think its original, Its certainly rusty enough to be!, but Jensen does have a tentative link to Volvo via the P1800 and I'm sure on the Wheeler dealers Jensen episode, they changed the brake MC and they mentioned that it was from a Volvo.

So, its looking like a Jag unit may be the way to go. It makes sense as the Jensen uses alot of Jag running gear.

As a side, it looks like the same casing/pressing was used for a few large cars of the era. Perhaps the insides of each changed?
