Calling XK120 OTS owners
Discussion
Hello all.
I am currently redoing the soft top on the XK120 OTS (1954). The old hood was done in America by Bubba. The new hood is by Aldridge Trimming but I need photos of the correct treatment of the hood around the windscreen area and particularly how the trim piece that sits on the windscreen goes.
Google is most unhelpful as most OTS cars are photographed without the roof on!
Any photos of the relevant areas would be most gratefully appreciated to prevent me from making a balls up.

P.S James, pop in for a cuppa with the car one day with the 120 we'll have a photo shoot with the cars !

I have a 1951 XK120 OTS. It is in our summer house and I do not have access to it at the moment and, of course, have no pictures of it with the hood erected but I can confirm that the header rail arrangement is a little odd. There is an additional flap of material - about 1" or 2 1/2 cm that extends beyond the the rail which hangs down over the windscreen and it is this extra material which helps prevent water entering at the header rail rather than a watertight seal which is the arrangement with most cars. The three latch arrangement is a little unreliable in our car with the centre latch wanting to come undone when the outer latches are clamped shut.
Expect gaps big enough to pass a (small) baby through where the top meets the side screens.
The soft top is a crude old thing which I guess is why you rarely see them erected. If erected in anger you will be soaked through by the time the thing is up and the nice airy cabin is then transformed into a claustrophobic coffin with zero visibility!

Thanks all.
I agree, they are a bit crude but look wonderful, they just lack utility!
James.
Hey, it was a concept car, it's just that people kept wanting to buy them and they weren't going to say no were they :-)I agree, they are a bit crude but look wonderful, they just lack utility!
James.
Then they had the problem of turning it into something they could actually make.
Your's is looking gorgeous.
Not quite sure what you need to see.
There is a wad of some felt like material in the valley to stop the rubbing against the chrome screen
There is a thicker soft material in two pieces to which the material is screwed via screws I assume hidden under the wad in the valley
I will post some more photos and you will just have to tell me what you want
Suffolk and Turley of Nuneaton did a good job. It must be difficult to have the correct tension
My hood does not leak but the glass is not sealed at the top of the windscreen and in heavy rain the wipers cannot cope and water finds its way to the top of the screen and falls in a line across my thighs. It does keep me awake and alert though!

I agree about the centre catch. I became bored trying to adjust the three catches and it seems to hold all right with the outer two.Expect gaps big enough to pass a (small) baby through where the top meets the side screens.

How are you going to have any ventilation without the "baby sized gaps" where the side screen meets the windscreen.?!!
I had a good tonneau made by Suffolk and Turley and I find that in all but the heaviest of rain the cockpit is dry if you can maintain 30 mph or more. Even better with the passenger side covered when driving solo.
A big hello to you all from another 120 Ots owner here.
Sorry, I can´t help with the roof, as I am on racing screens.
In the rain I wouldn´t get wet as much as when trying to build up the roof.
I use the saved time for reaching home as fast as possible.
Always a good excuse for a very spirited drive.

That reminds me of a cartoon I saw recently, probably the latest Gazette, 2 women talking at an owners meet, one has very swept back wind blown hair and the other is saying "I see he got the aero screens fitted then".
