Disguised Fuel Filling

As a teenager my Saturday job was at a local petrol station, back in the days' before self-service. Some of the fuel filling positions were well disguised, for example behind fold-down number plates, and one of the best disguised fillers was on the Super Snipe, behind a rear reflector.



I spotted this Skoda filling position recently, not a car I remember, but ten out of ten for the disguised filler!

my dad had one of these when I was quite young,almost same colour too and it took us to france(and back)on camping trips many a time,something near enough always broke but you could fix it easy with some string and a coke can and carry on.

My Ford Corsair was the same. I hid my trailer electrical socket behind that plate also.

My grandfather had some sort of AC saloon that had the fuel filler in the dashboard.

It was a family sport to see how long it took forecourt attendants to find the filler neck.

Brings back memories of my temporary job pumping gas in the US. I liked Corvettes with the cap behind the rear screen dead centre. TR6 was the same.

A nice touch missing from most cars today.

I always liked the way TVR hid their fillers under the boot lid, nicely placed in the corner of the boot guttering and opening the boot isn't any more hassle than opening a flap. One less panel gap to get right during manufacture as well. Very neat.

Filler was under the driver's seat cushion in an old Landrover we had.

The first car I remember my father having was a Humber Hawk and that had the same arrangement as the Snipe.

At the petrol station the other day someone was filling their Austin 7 and the filler there seemed to be under the bonnet. Sadly LadyB8 was in a hurry so I couldn't go over and chat with the owner.
