Overdrive Switch Rating

I have a custom-built gearbox, with no reversing light switch. As a result, I have a switch in the dash for that. I'd like to use a Healey or MG gear knob with a built-in overdrive switch, and use that switch for my reversing lights.

Does anybody know what these switches are rated to? I'm assuming the ampage needed to switch the O/D on is similar to that needed to power a light, but I don't know if the O/D requires a momentary throw, or it's on/off.

No idea as to rating, but why don't you use a relay? You'd have no concerns then.

Call B&G and ask them. Can't imagine the switch being anything less than 10A. I do know some fellow rally guys who use this switch for their reversing lights with the switch also wired in for a rear Lucas spot light in order to really light up the rear visibility. If push comes to shove, you could always replace the gearknob switch with a 15-20A unit.

If I could find a swith that small, I'd make my own knob. I think I'll buy a knob and see what happens
