Renault Alpine purchased!

So I am the very happy owner of the least desriable of the Alpine models in the form of a 1990 GTA. However this was the one I wanted and when one came along in the correct colour I was very happy to open up the piggy bank to make the aquisition.

I am fantastically unprepared for ownership. I dont know a great deal about them other then the basic fundamentals. All I am thinking about is refreshing whats already there and maybe some period Borbets or Azevs.


Any advice welcome.

Congratulations - always liked these. What colour is it? Don't think I've ever seen one on the road, but the magazine featured ones all seem to be red, white or blue.

Good work, I'd love one of these, suspect the value will only go one way too, I remember spending a fair bit of time a few years ago wondering if I should buy a Porsche 928 or A610, obviously bought neither and they're both out of my budget now, but one should have these conversations with ones self just in case.

Colleague had one of these back in 1999/2000. Looked great but he said it was technically an awful car to own. Unreliable, uncomfortable and build for disfigured people......

It was his favourite ever car, he loved it more than he love his (now ex) wife and is the only car he regrets selling. Enjoy a true automotive classic/legend

I enjoyed mine, and thought it was comfortable.

Despite not being the nicest, it also attracted attention wherever I took it.


Look forward to dodgy electrics, and unless it has been painted, lacquer peel on the paintwork.

Used to live across the road Bungalow with the garage in the garden (Rydal Mount)
Oft fancied a GTA, mate has one in his garage in Shields, never moved for years.
Interesting Cram fact: The lady from Rydales (Hilary?) used to have a GTA atmo in pearlescent white whilst husband ran a 924turbo IIRC

You mean the most desirable surely? Well, it's the only one I want.

Good car choice, I recall reading the glossy mag's back in the day when they put the Renault up against the Lotus Esprit. Renault held up extremely well, that's how good they really are.

I looked at buying one back in the early 90s, a sort of pearlescent off white. Looked great.
I didn't get as far as taking it for a test drive as the good lady swore the only way she could get into it was to crawl in on all fours (nothing wrong with that) and getting over the hand break in a skirt would be indecent. So it was a choice between the car and her wearing short skirts.

Gentlemen…

First off I have to apologise in the delay in posting. Working really messes with my valuable PH time and I promise to do something about it. Also I have to further apologise for the lack of photographic content… my work doesn’t allow me onto my pic hosting site and furthermore I cannot see anyone else’s pics. Pretty poor showing really..

The car for those who have asked about the colour, its YELLOW, a searing Renault performance hue.

These are my current day dreams…

Fresh paint with satin black roof and bonnet to mimic the earler rally cars.
Holly carb ontop of the V6 to improve over the old carb (or modern Renault V6 conversion… Nissan 350z V6? Too much?)
Borbet or Azev wheels
Suspension refresh
Brakes from a Megane RS

I am not sure if any of this will actually happen of course. I may just drive, service, repair and just enjoy.

I have seen recent articles on this car and by all accounts it’s a very nice car to drive. Much like my 911 but in a different flavour. We’ll see.

Congratulations on buying! My dad had a white GTV turbo for a couple of years from '89-'91 I think. I was around 18 and thought it was the coolest thing. Would love to buy one now but owning 2 alfas (one old, one not so oldish) means I cant afford another bottomless pit

I personally wouldn't do the satin black stuff

I would retrim the interior and all the other stuff you've said..
