Classic Cars that Disappeared

Inspired by the talks in the myster car thread, I thought I would make a thred for cars that vanished and no one knows for sure what happened to them.

I'm now talking about cases where that specific cars was noteable (i.e. it was a one-off or something), not everyday cars that been produced in the thousands and no one keeps track off.

Lets start with the 1969 Volvo 2000 Gtz. Designed and built by Zagato on a 140 base, shown on the 1969 Turing Motor Show and reportedly sold of the stage at the show. No one have seen it and nothing have been heard of it since then.

1954 Abarth-Alfa Romeo 2000. Chassis by Abarth, tuned Alfa Romeo engine and bodywork by Ghia. It was shown on the 1954 Turing Motor Show and no one seems to know what happened to it after that.

The 1955 Tatra JK 2500. It was constructed to a design by Czech Julius Kubinski. Initially the car was fitted with a Alfa Romeo 2,5 straight six but this was later replaced with Tatras 2,5 air-cooled v8. Kubinski used the car as his daily driver in 13 years following its completion. He then sold and car disappeared.

The 1957 Triumph TR3 Speciale. Built by Vignale to a design by Michelotti. It was the first car Michelotti ever designed for the Standard Motor Company and it was commissioned in an attempt to see what Michelotti was capable of. Not much is known about the history after its debut on the 1957 Geneva Motor Show but at least we know that Standard did not scrap it like the people over at MG did with their project, as it was seen parked on the street in Modena, Italy in 1960. This is also the most recent information/spot we have on the car.

I believe it was converted into an Enigma machine.

Does the 1997 theft(?) of the 007 Goldfinger Aston Martin DB5 count?

Ooo, many other cars in that shape - Herald for one - side on - window shape and roofline - shame no-one knows where it ended up. I can't believe that hasn't been seen since the 60s!

If it is still not accounted for, sure. But it would probably be more interesting if you write what information was known about the car too.

Someone, somewhere probably knows about it. It's probably somewhere in a rural barn in Italy.

1956 Nardi-Chrysler Corsair Boano. Chassis was made by Nardi, the engine come from Chrysler and the body was built by Boano. Shown on the Paris Motor Show. No information is known about what happened to it after that.

The 1939 Kamm-tailed BMW 328 team car was scrapped in the fifties. Only one was built and BMW spent endless time trying to track the remains down, to no avail.In 2010 they built this replica. It was the only team car they did not have.

The sole Alfa Romeo bodied by Scaglietti is also missing. It was re-bodied by Scagliette in 1957 after the owner, Domenico Rabino, crashed his 1956 Alfa Romeo Sprint Veloce. It was raced in the Coppa della Consuma in 1957 with its new body but no one knows what happened to the car after 1958.

Oldsmobile Golden Rocket. One of the stars of the 1956 GM Motorama. Was reportedly sighted in New Jersey some years later, but no-one really knows where it is or if it still exists, despite extensive searches.

That's a very good one. I was not aware that it disappeared. I thought it had been crushed.

Another Michelotti Triump prototype that disappeared is the TR4B. Triumph delivered a TR¤ to his workshop in Turin (where this picture was taken) which he redesigned into a design reminiscent of the Michelotti Jaguar D-type. This was Michelottis proposal for the model that become the TR5.

A Triumph with that registration last past it's MOT back in April 2014. Obviously cars of that age no longer require an MOT, therefore I'd suggest it's alive and well but hidden in someones garage

I have actually never thought about checking that (not sure how I do that anyway), but I have just been told that it had disappeared. It would be nice if it still with us but no other pictures than the one I posted seems to exist of it.
