It feels so wrong to crush all of these cars without allowing the opportunity to recycle the useful and often rare components.

FFS. And how long have they been sitting there now?

Is there the faintest possibility that someone realises what is sitting there and that's why they still exist? Quite a few of those would go some way towards recouping the government's outlay on the scheme if sold.

Then, thinking about it, I suppose they wanted old "polluting' cars off the road anyway.

They aren't still there. They were all crushed years ago. Old photos being re-shared without thought. Why would anybody pay to store them for six years?

What really annoys me is the fact that most of these cars were nominated for scrappage.

By their owners. Who have every right to do whatever they like with their cars.

Seeing as they have grouped a variation of years and makes together like that maybe they do see the value.
If not I'm surprised they weren't all scrapped earlier when the price of metal was higher.

Well, that's gospel, then. After all, there haven't been umpty-ump stories of scrappage cars still being at Thurleigh kicking around for years.

Pause and think. You've got a bunch of stters sat outside for SIX YEARS. Don't you think they might be a bit... greener... than that? Or browner, even? Or, come to that, sat on flat tyres?

And why would the storage be being paid on scrap for SIX YEARS?

Here's a thread from 2013 saying they were still there (which surprises me, tbh) - with a 2015 reply saying all gone.

the way the value of some of those have gone, I bet more then a few owners are kicking themselves not hanging on a bit longer. Escort RS Turbo and other 80s fords for example.

I think Google have changed the way they report that - it seems to always say 2016 but I know for sure that the one of my house was at least 6 years ago.

Saw this on Facebook earlier - my view is that if they do still exist they should now at least be sold for spares, definitely some valuable bits there but some of the cars would be worth a lot more now than they cost us as taxpayers in the UK. Please can we have our money back and the chance to get some parts!

Saw these pics on Facebook and they don't make sense to me.

If these are scrappage cars which can't be sold or even broken for parts and can only be crushed, what was the point in spending a lot of time and money organising them by make and model? That doesn't add up. The only reason to group cars like that would be to use them for parts or similar.

I done some digging and have found the satellite image was taken on 31/12/2010.

So whatever was there is probably not there now. The below was from 2002!
