Seen at Johann Rupert's museum near Stellenbosch in South Africa last week together with other rarities:
The notes state the car is a 1955 D Type. This car in the photos finished 4th at the 1957 Le Mans 24 hour.

Ah the "Ecurie Nationale Belge / Ecurie Francorchamps" D-Type, XKD573. It came fourth in both 56 & 57.

Editted: forth, fourth, OK it came forth only to finish fourth.

Yup, and it has a long history. Over this century here are a few photos. Seen at Terry Larson's garage in Mesa AZ, 2005:-

Le Mans Classic 2006:-

Another at Mulsanne bend:-

`

I have others. it was originally prepared for the Belgian National Team for Le Mans, that year held on 28/29th July rather strangely, and was driven by Swaters/Rouselle. It belonged to an Argentinian, then turned up in the Franschoek Museum near Capetown where I photographed it in 2012.

I know next to nothing about these old Jags, apart from they're very nice with a rich history, but how come the smaller lights, driving lights, indicators whatever they are, disappeared from the bonnet between the earlier Goodwood pic and 2005? New nose? Interchangeable nose? Slight damage? Do they use a fibreglass one for when it's on a track?

I might have known that given the sharp eyes of the brotherhood I would be uncovered. Please put it down to senility - the car racing at Le Mans wasn't the same one, but I am damned sure it did race there at one of the Classics. I'll search my albums. Apologies folks.

I'm not saying it wasn't at the Classic but I've just checked my photos and don't have one of it - I didn't go to the first event in 2006 though.
