most accelerative classic?

What do you consider a classic? How old. And what sort of budget? And are you only interested in standard cars, or modified ones?
Factory standard the Cobra 427 S/C has to be in with a shot.
Lots of 60's and 70's muscle that was fairly speedy in its day. Be it Chargers, Trans Am's or others. All hugely tuneable too and in keeping with he period.

I have a Lotus Carlton and it still feels really quite quick (my daily driver is an M5). It is a lot more involved than the M5 however, you have to remember it is of its time.
By that I mean that the suspension and brakes are not up to modern standards and the traction control is your right foot, but if you accept that then you will enjoy it.

Ok, let's refine the choices a bit. Up to £20,000 and pre 1990. Ok, that's not strictly a classic but I wouldn't call it modern either.
I've owned a Graff which certainly had the performance! Don't particularly like Cerebral or later models.
quite intrigued by the idea of a Nissan 300, possibly an Alpine? My Sl is lovely but I do hanker after something out of the ordinary.

I am always a bit suspicious of such open ended questions.
Surely, you know something about your own 'cup of tea' which results in at least a short list. That is not to say the cars in the short list are directly comparable. But at least, the cars in your list can be a specific point for others to offer some experience on.
To put it bluntly, if you come on here and are asking purely to identify the cars that were made before a certain year that can accelerate 0-60 in less than X seconds, then do your own homework you lazy f***er. That is just research. If you want us to suggest some cool cars, then, try and think more about your own tastes and share it so we can offer something that may be of interest (you lazy f****er). Polite hints of course but put some time in to ensure you get something out of it that fits with you.
