Bespoke Exhaust made - a few pics

An as promised "plug" for Demand Engineering of Earl Stonham in Suffolk, they made up a new Stainless Steel Exhaust system for my Lancer Turbo, all fully TIG welded and lifetime guarantee.
It's a typical "old school" set up, a couple of young lads in the workshop but they both are really skilled craftsmen IMO, and it's good and interesting to watch them work and see some skills in action. They don't mind you chatting as they work, and Paul, the chap who fitted mine expalained what he was doing every step of the way.
They do ask you to keep out of the workshop while they do any welding or cutting, there is a small waiting room and facilities should you need them, but they are pretty basic.
I opted for a Full system from Turbo back.

The guy started at 10:30 and we were all done by 5:00. There is a huge selection of trims and rear boxes to choose from, I opted for a single (loud) box system.
Total cost was around £500 inc VAT, which I thought for a lifetime guaranteed system, made to measure with 2mm Stainless (I think) was not too bad, besides I had no choice as there are no standard ones around anymore anyway.
Demand are a really knowledgable and approachable bunch of guys. They also support "bloodline" which are the Motorcycle Charity which supplies & runs around Plasma out of hours for the NHS. They can make Manifolds and pretty much anything else which needs to be TIG welded.I Can't thank them enough.

Sound wise it's more raspy than the old one, which was full of holes anyway, so it sounds better and seemingly higher in pitch but the engine never was given to being particularly unique in its sound.
Finishingtouch, that was welded in situe I think, I don't know what you mean by " sugared" though, that is under the car halfway along, to me it looks pretty good, but I've never held a welding torch but it's an awful lot better than some welding I've seen done in the past, externally and from a laymans view that is.

This was the problem I had, if an off the shelf M/S exhaust isn't available, S/S is the only option.Just wondering if there are different stds, after all moderns have SS exhausts.

Back purged with argon usually results in a penetration bead that looks even better than the outside of the weld.
A purged weld is stronger and far less likely to crack.

It's got a lifetime guarantee anyway and will far outlast the car I would imagine. Would it (possibility of cracking) matter much on a mid section of an exhuast?.
One thing to bare in mind is to support the system in several places with those rubber blocks. The flex unit shouldn't take the weight as that could well bebloody hell ,every day is a schoolday

the weak spot. Good ones are formed like a set of bellows and the less expensive version is spiral wound flexi pipe inside.
Another point that would be deemed your responsibility is the engine mounts. A less than regularly serviced engine might well shake around causing more
stress on the exhaust system as will sad and worn engine mounts themselves.

When the molten pool is allowed to cool and solidify rapidly the shrinkage results in a pore, often with minute cracks radiating from it.
The current that a TIG welder uses can be controlled by either a pedal, much like an accelerator pedal in a car, or a timer that slopes or
ramps down the current at a given rate, thus allowing the pool to solidify evenly.
Think of a gas hob. Turn off a gas ring and the heat stop is instant. Turn off an electric ring and the heat slowly reduces.
