I've got non-standard carbs, but only because they were on it when I bought it. I've got a Webasto sunroof for much the same reason, and poly suspension bushes because when I fitted them, new rubber ones weren't available. Other than that, it's as close to standard as I can keep it.

My only mod is headlight relays and nightbreaker bulbs. Does this count as blatant or discrete?

Only mod on my toy is the hifi unit - now a crap pioneer double din touch screen thing instead of the old and even more rubbish stereo. I will likely upgrade the speakers and amp soon (JBL perhaps with a Alpine amp?)

I am also waiting for royal steering wheels to get better so I can change the er....steering wheel.

Apart from that it will remain stock and well treated.

EDIT - forgot - gundo mod on exhaust and short shift on the gears.

My AC was turbocharged in period by Robin Rew, externally the only clues are a small TURBO badge and single exhaust.

My first ever car was a 1962 Mini Minor 850 with an Austin 1300 engine and Cosmic alloys. I have modified pretty much every car I've owned.

E21 BMW 316 with 2.8 24v conversion.

Club Sport E30 M3 with carbon air box, Alpha N, KW suspension, Tarox big brakes, BBS E50's etc

BMW 323i which was my first M52 2.8 swap but no longer exists.

BMW 2002 lowered on 6x13 Revolutions and 185/60's with Webers.

TR6 - just about every mod I can lay my hands on, because it needs them.

Quattro – no mods at all, because it is sublime and doesn't need them.

Interesting Topic.

My Mk1 golf is pretty much standard - it has a bloody bee sting Arial which I hate and will get replaced when it needs paint, and a sunroof that was installed a month after it was sold, so a period modification really.

I intend to replace consumables with later (upgraded) parts as I go - I don;t see the point of using tyres (already has modern yoko's) brake pads (one guy I met stockpiles pads from the early 80's) coolant and oil etc - materials have moved on. I'm also replacing the suspension with modern equivalents, inc. polybushes (still normal shocks / spring, no coilovers) because I know they will perform better whilst retaining the ethos of the original. Likewise, black silicone hoses will replace the old ones when I do the coolant system.

I don;t plan on upgrading to larger calipers or a rear disc conversion, as this in my mind is non-standard (whilst probably better!). I've learn;t that whatever you do, you'll be looked down on by some anyway...

My Spitfire has a list of modifications longer than my arm, everything from mechanical upgrades like MegaJolt ignition (about the most effective upgrade I've ever made) through usability ones (6hrs in MX5 seats are a pleasure, unlike the original seats) and to cosmetic ones (unique, custom-mixed paint colour).

Next on the list are stainless steel bumpers, fuel injection and then a Mini supercharger - though focus may switch to restoring my 2.5PI (with BMW back-end and Lexus 1UZFE V8 engine).

1986/7 MR2
Exterior mods - aftermarket wheels, removed rear spoiler.
Interior mods - stereo, steering wheel, gear knob.
Invisible mods - springs, dampers, upgraded headlights, 20 valve engine, 6 speed gearbox, helical lsd.

I wanted to improve performance, but make it look like it came from the factory as it is. smile

So mine is in the process of being rebuilt / restored so this is the current plan rather than actual...

The only visual mods I am planing on doing is to fit earlier, but still the same make & model, alloy wheels as I prefer the look and it will have a larger cross section, albeit same shape, exhaust tip. Keep the original ones as well though.

Invisible mods will be ported head, strengthened rods, fast road cam, free flow turbo, higher flow injectors, 3" stainless exhaust, alloy (and bigger) radiator, stronger intercoolers & custom remap. All with parts that are contemporary to the vehicle because I want to keep the character of the vehicle whilst making it a bit faster.

Lots of stuff under the skin but only the duck-tail and Turbo Fuchs are visible.

Everything is reversible.

When I bought it 12 years ago and now...

Read in a magazine that my car is now officially a classic smile so here it is, stainless mazdaparts exhaust is the only mod to date, wouldn't mind a suspension rebush and some bracing next smile oh and an lsd, its open diff at the moment, oh and a 6 speed box....and and and..... don't know if I'll ever actually bother though.

Yep.

Wide steel rims with polished stainless hubcaps, weber downdraft carb, K&N filter, lowered 30mm, uprated gas dampers, 4 branch manifold, performance exhaust (soon getting a custom made stainless system), different seats, single piece electric front windows, poly bushed, uprated anti roll bar, fully lined with sound deadening and foam, uprated alternator, uprated heater motor fan, pod rev counter, extra gauges, moto lita steering wheel and boss…

Probably a load of other stuff that I've forgotten as well.

I don't 'do' standard.

Rose tinted specs off, yes, i wouldn't drive them if they were standard, old cars are pretty crap, i modded them to make them better back in the day i still do now.

My Healey was converted to a works rally rep a couple of owners back when it was re imported to the UK and converted back to right hand drive in 1994 (it originally went straight to the States from the factory in 1961.)
It has evolved bit by bit over the years and in my opinion is now a better car for it. i've spent a lot of time , money and effort on it myself although a lot of the major stuff was done by the previous two owners.
Specs are.
All ally body work.
Light weight wheel rims.
Denis Welch ally racing head.
Denis Welch valve gear and valves.
Six branch extractor manifold with side exit exhaust.
Triple two inch SU's
Bucket cam followers.
Fast road/race cam.
Forged pistons (Omega)
Balanced and lightened with harmonic crank damper.
Full length, baffled, works style sump.
High capacity oil pump.
Uprated water pump.
Uprated clutch.
Straight cut Jack Knight gears with tulip ratios.
Competition overdrive by Over drive services in Coventry.
Denis Welch heavy duty springs (although i did still manage to break one on a rally in Italy, the roads were horrendous at times) with rose joint drop links.
Denis Welch hubs (Originals have a habit of cracking after years of use/abuse as did my fronts)
Jaguar disc brake conversion on the back.
Poly bushed.
Cobra seats.
Denis Welch roll bar.
Willans harnesses.
Mota Lita wheel.
It would be a bit OTT if i didn't rally the car and it did the occasional garden center run as so many are doomed to do , but i love the way it drives. Not particularly well mannered at times but who the hell cares. Next expense may have to be some ear defenders wink
